- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- Green food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika, cooking for about 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- If desired, add a few drops of green food coloring to achieve a ‘toxic’ look.
- Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni and mix well.
- Serve immediately, garnished with additional cheese or toppings if desired.
