Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices of cheese (American or cheddar)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard
Instructions
- Preheat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and form loose balls.
- Add vegetable oil to the skillet.
- Place the beef balls on the skillet and smash them down with a spatula to form patties.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes until a crust forms, then flip the patties.
- Add a slice of cheese on top of each patty and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Toast the burger buns on the skillet for a minute.
- Assemble the burgers with your choice of toppings and serve immediately.
Notes
- For best results, use beef with a higher fat content for juicier burgers.
- Do not overwork the meat when forming the balls.
- Experiment with different cheeses and toppings to customize your burger.
