Description

A spooky and delicious poisoned apple Halloween cake that is perfect for your Halloween celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Red food coloring
  • Green fondant for decoration
  • Chocolate ganache for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and buttermilk.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until smooth. Add red food coloring to achieve a deep red color.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, layer the cakes with chocolate ganache in between and coat the entire cake with ganache.
  9. Decorate the top with green fondant shaped like leaves and apples.
