Description

Deliciously crispy and buttery German potato pancakes that are a must-try for any potato lover.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Grate the potatoes and place them in a clean kitchen towel to squeeze out excess moisture.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, chopped onion, eggs, flour, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a mixture of butter and vegetable oil.
  4. Scoop a portion of the potato mixture into the skillet and flatten it to form a pancake.
  5. Fry until golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  6. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with applesauce or sour cream.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, make sure to remove as much moisture from the potatoes as possible.
  • These pancakes can be kept warm in the oven while you fry the remaining batches.
  • Feel free to add herbs or spices to the mixture for additional flavor.
