- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma.
- In a large bowl, combine the brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar, mixing until smooth.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Stir in the sourdough starter until fully incorporated.
- In another bowl, whisk together the rolled oats, flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
Notes
- For a nuttier flavor, you can add chopped nuts to the batter.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- These bars can be frozen for up to 3 months.
