Description

Deliciously chewy and nutty cookie bars made with brown butter and sourdough, perfect for a sweet treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar, mixing until smooth.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  5. Stir in the sourdough starter until fully incorporated.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together the rolled oats, flour, baking soda, and salt.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  8. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  9. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.

Notes

  • For a nuttier flavor, you can add chopped nuts to the batter.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • These bars can be frozen for up to 3 months.
