Ingredients

- 1 cup of unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of almond extract
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Whole almonds (for fingernails)
- Red food coloring (for blood)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, almond extract, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Take small portions of dough and shape them into finger-like forms.
- Press a whole almond onto the tip of each finger to create a fingernail.
- Use a knife to create knuckle lines on the fingers.
- Place the fingers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Once cooled, use red food coloring to add ‘blood’ around the almond fingernails.
Notes
- For a more intense flavor, you can add a few drops of almond extract to the red food coloring.
- These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
