- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- White frosting
- Black food coloring
- Chocolate chips (for eyes)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the buttermilk and mix until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cupcakes cool completely before decorating.
- Color the white frosting with black food coloring to create a skull effect.
- Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes to resemble skulls.
- Use chocolate chips to create eyes on the skulls.
Notes
- For a more intense chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
- Make sure the cupcakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
- Feel free to add edible glitter for a spooky effect.
