Description

Delicious and spooky cupcakes decorated to look like skulls, perfect for Halloween celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • White frosting
  • Black food coloring
  • Chocolate chips (for eyes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add the buttermilk and mix until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cupcakes cool completely before decorating.
  8. Color the white frosting with black food coloring to create a skull effect.
  9. Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes to resemble skulls.
  10. Use chocolate chips to create eyes on the skulls.

Notes

  • For a more intense chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
  • Make sure the cupcakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Feel free to add edible glitter for a spooky effect.
