A delicious and hearty baked beans recipe that is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients

- 2 cups dried navy beans
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 pound bacon, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Soak the navy beans overnight in water.
- Drain and rinse the beans, then place them in a pot with 4 cups of water.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
- In a separate bowl, mix together brown sugar, molasses, onion, mustard powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Add the cooked beans to the mixture and stir well.
- If using, add the chopped bacon to the pot.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cover with foil.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (165°C) for 2 hours.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes to thicken the sauce.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
- These beans can be made ahead of time and reheated.
