Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown butter

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat apple cider until warm, then stir in yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the melted butter and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough tightly and cut into rolls.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. For the icing, mix powdered sugar with brown butter until smooth and drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use freshly grated nutmeg.
  • These rolls can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator overnight before baking.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the icing to your preference.
